A Family-Friendly Neighborhood in Jerusalem
East Talpiot (not to be mistaken with Talpiot), also known as Armon Hanatziv, is a neighborhood in southeast Jerusalem, established in 1972. It is located about 4 kilometers from the city center.
The neighborhood is situated on the southern slopes of Mount Atzel (Armon Hanatziv Ridge), on two spurs with a valley (a natural amphitheater) between them. The steep slope on which the neighborhood is built is part of the sharp descent of the Judean Mountains towards the Dead Sea.
A Touch of History
Jerusalem is steeped in ancient history, and East Talpiot is no exception. The neighborhood is home to a cave that is claimed to be the burial cave of Jesus and his family. The cave was discovered in 1980 by a local child during construction work for new homes.
East Talpiot is primarily a residential neighborhood, characterized by numerous apartment buildings, some in the form of terraced housing. The area is quiet and family-oriented, well-connected to public transportation with bus lines to the city center and neighboring neighborhoods. There is also easy access to the main street leading out of the city.
The neighborhood is home to Mitzpetel, an urban nature site in Jerusalem. From the hill, you can enjoy views of the Judean Desert, including the Moab Mountains beyond the Dead Sea, Herodium, the Old City basin, and the Temple Mount. In autumn, the hill is covered with a carpet of squills, and in February, it is covered with a carpet of lupines.
A Young and Thriving Community
Since the beginning of 2011, the "Young Neighborhood" program has been operating in East Talpiot in collaboration with "Young People in the Center." As part of the program, a coordinator from "Young People in the Center" is stationed at the neighborhood's community administration.
The program focuses on developing public spaces, producing content events, creating opportunities for families to get to know each other, upgrading educational and early childhood frameworks, and strengthening community spirit in the neighborhood.
Whether you're looking for apartments for rent or for sale, East Talpiot offers a unique blend of history, nature, and community, making it an attractive option for families and individuals seeking a peaceful and well-connected home in Jerusalem.
